LEITH SHORE INTERVENTIONS

Leith Port Interventions was the main design module with MA Advance Sustainable Design 2012-13. The project is located in Leith Port, Edinburgh between the declining industrial area and the expanding city fabric.

The design proposal consists of public activities by the coastal edges, continuing the successful economical and social aspect of Leith Shore. Small scale buildings are placed along the promenade and host weekly markets, restaurants and offices . The energy requirements of the development are supported by a Biomass plant with on-site trees harvesting. The trees and proposed landscaping reduce the vast scale of the site and act as wind breakers.

It is anticipated that the area will involve in time to become a successful social and economic centre offering the possibility for further development. In 20 years time, there will be the need for more public buildings, with development expanding in the sea between the historic piers. In 50 years time the site could sustain a big scale public building, like a theatre or a museum, and the whole area will be completely integrated within Edinburgh at large.
